New York City: Meet the Met Cloisters

New York City: Meet the Met Cloisters

Apr 19, 2017 Dr. Kristina Nelson

Are you looking to enjoy a nice day out in New York City this spring? If so, The Cloisters, located in Northern Manhattan’s Fort Tyron Park, is the perfect place to go. As a branch of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which includes gorgeous Medieval European art, visitors can spend time both indoors and outdoors. The Cloisters houses gorgeous gardens as well as very nice architectural pieces and art works inside of the museum itself.

Take a Walk Back in Time

What encompasses The Cloisters? The beautiful gardens, located on a hill in Fort Tyron Park, provides striking views of the Hudson River. The garden is four acres in size and exists as the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s dedication to the gardens and architecture of the European Middle Ages. The Cloisters received its name as a reflection of the medieval cloisters that make up the museum. Within the gardens, you can find more than 2,000 demonstrations of architecture and gardening concepts from the Middle Ages.

Based on the same medieval theme as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, visitors can take in the stunningly recreated flower, herb, and plant gardens of the period. The Cloisters offers guided tours for visitors that want to learn more about the gardens and history. After finishing a tour or walking through the gardens, guests can enjoy some food in the Trie Café, found in the gardens and open from May through October.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art & Tickets

Inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, visitors can view over five thousand pieces of art, ranging from medieval sculpture, exquisite manuscripts, magnificent stained glass, and the famous Unicorn Tapestries. Individuals in possession of a New York Pass receive free admission to the Museum. Otherwise, tickets cost:

$25 for adults
$10 for children older than 12
$17 for seniors
$12 for students
Children under 12 are free.
